Rachel's Bio & Continuity

First of the characters that really should've gotten bios a while ago, seeing how much I play them nowadays. Rachel was one of my first ever RP characters, created around 2003.

Name: Rachel Kelly
Age: 27
Gender: female
Race: human (X-positive)
Power: pyrokenesis
Height: 5'7
Hair: red
Eyes: light brown
Birthday: June 22nd

Home Universe: alternate future Marvel/X-men
Alts: The Pyromancer Rachel Kelly from Alexander Lossehelin's reality

Description: Rachel is a lean acrobatic woman with short curly hair. True to her Irish ancestry said hair is red and incredibly unruly. In her younger years she was just indifferent enough to tie it into a ponytail, but these days she can't imagine how she ever fought with the huge mass whapping into her face all the time. She lopped it off at age 21 and never looked back. Rachel's clothing style sits somewhere between feminine sophisticate and working-class comfort, though recently she's been able to indulge more in the former due to her new salary and dress code. Prizing maneuverability over power, Rachel has trained for years to dodge and weave around battlefields. (Or just a few trash cans and fences between her and a perp.) She can jump several feet in the air from a dead stop. This training has given her an enviable body with powerful legs, as well as a bit of jumpiness when startled. As expected for a police officer she is proficient with handguns and also knows judo and kickboxing.
Personality: On the surface Rachel appears to be a fun-loving and short-tempered person. (But don't describe her as "fiery," unless you want a death glare.) Those close to her know she has her ups and downs and sometimes needs a little space to herself. Fewer still know the true reason behind her emotional see-saw. Rachel's pyrokenesis revolves around and manipulates her emotional state. Using her powers puts her into a manic state with heightened aggression, and prolonged usage renders her exhausted and depressed afterward. For years she's hated being a slave to her emotions, and this fact can often cause outbursts all by itself. Fortunately joining the police force has helped her hone more mundane ways of fighting. Thus Rachel is becoming more confident in her abilities without having to resort to her powers. She's not the strongest or most eloquent, but when push comes to shove her loyalty and determination are second to none.
Likes: lime green, jogging, parkour, Philly cheese steaks, dark chocolate cheesecake
Dislikes: arrogant people

History: Rachel used to belong to the Xavier Academy, run by the grandchild of Charles Xavier. She and her teammates David and Jerry would occasionally be called upon to take care of various threats to their mutant brethren. But when her past caught up to her the guilt caused a mental breakdown. Rachel ran away from the Center and was found lying on the street by her old friend and father-figure Wallace. To save her from death and hurting anyone else her unconscious rewrote her memories and blocked any access to her powers. For a while she was an entirely different person, more demure and gentle. When David finally found her again Rachel couldn't even remember him. During this time mutant protest riots broke out and talk of rebuilding Magneto's colony turned into bitter fighting for the Xavier students. Rachel was kidnapped in an attempt to persuade David to join the cause. Wallace, David, Jerry, and the other students managed to save her and stop the Secessionists, but not before her powers reawakened and caused major damage.
It took a long time for Rachel to reconcile both sides of her personality. She never rejoined the Academy and moved into a quiet town in upper New York. But soon her sense of justice led her to join the police force. There she made new friends and found a purpose, as long as she hid her powers. Eventually her partner found out when she saved him from another pyrokinetic and refused to talk to her for several days. Around the same time David reappeared at her doorstep asking for her help fighting the recently reemerged Secessionist leader. She refused, unable to face him again. But an anti-mutant group took advantage of David and the others' absence to invade and take the rest of the students hostage. Rachel once again donned her fireproof suit and set out to rescue the students. Her police partner, impressed by her loyalty, accompanied her, risking his life for a group of people he had until now openly disliked.
After the Xavier hostage incident Rachel decided to stop hiding from the world and openly declared her mutant status in full uniform in a public press conference. It caused a lot of flak but her fellow officers stood by her. She now wears a large "M" on her clothing wherever she goes to openly challenge how people treat mutants. (The idea caught on and is quickly becoming a worldwide statement.) Closeted mutants began coming to her secretly for advice and soon she had an entire support group going. Then she got an offer from a brand new division of the force, an experimental Integrated Mutant/Human Taskforce meant to combat the growing number of mutant-related crimes in New York while building human/mutant relations. She now works as a detective in Manhattan, living in the Bronx with a large mutant population. Isobell, a purple-haired artist, lives in the loft above her. They often visit "Nana Anna" on the first floor, a large Hawaiian woman with a talent for creating feasts out of almost anything.
